Last Thursday I went to my first official cycling training class. It was a BYOB (bring your own bike) event in the basement of Penn Cycle in Woodbury. The class is weekly (I'm going every other week) and taught by "Coach Bob"(more on him in another post).
Talk about being out of my league...Holy buckets!!! There were about 25 people there and all have various backgrounds and abilities. Some were professional cyclists and triathletes. Others were elite age group cyclists and cyclists...then there was me. It reminded me of going to a corvette event with all the pimped out rides. Average price of each bike was probably around $6000.
The workout was 1 1/2 hours with some intervals, then a 30 minute TT (Time Trial) and then a cool down with some intervals. The Time Trial was explained as "Go as fast as you can for 30 minutes." I don't have any electronics on my bike yet so I don't know speed or distance during that 30 minute trial...but my Heart Rate averaged 169 (middle of zone 5). I think I emptied my tank to about as low as it can go.
I met a lot of great people and it was a lot of fun. These people are hard core and do rides like that 3 times a week. I'm never going to be at their level...nor do I want to...but I'm definitely looking forward to going again.
