You read it right. I'm 38 years old and taking swimming lessons.
Today was actually week #2. It's at 6:00am on Friday morning so it works out really well. I'm usually home by 7am and ready to help get the girls going and the dog out. There are actually 4 other people in my class and all of them are thinking of doing a tri this year...so that's cool.
My swimming has improved a ton since my first triathlon last year (embarrassing!). I was completely wiped out coming out of the water and Christine is telling me to run. I knew I was supposed too, I just didn't have any energy! In the pool is pretty easy compared to what the events are like, but I can do the .25 mile in under 8 minutes now (almost 12 in my first race) and I can do the full 2.4 miles (Ironman distance) in 1hr and 40mins without stopping so big progress.
I've actually learned a lot so far. I am gliding too much (long and slow strokes), where my hand goes in the water is too close to my head and I rotate my hips too much...2 of those 3 things I was actually doing on purpose before...OUCH!
